Our District Outing

You can't complain when you wake up to a view like this!

Being the first day in Sydney, our district had planned some activities for us to do. We were all to board this tiny bus and drive for 3 hours to Port Stevens. No one knew that the bus ride was going to be 3 hours. This bus only allowed 21 passengers.....and we had 21 passengers. We were getting passed by semi trucks going up hill. It was madness.
We finally arrived. We were at the sand dunes.

It was beautiful. It was hot.
.
We all picked up a board and they taught us how to sand surf. On our bums. After everyone went down the hill, our guys asked if they could go on their feet. There were a lot of other tourists that day and apparently you are supposed to surf sitting down, but our guide took us to a more secluded hill.
.
Some people crashed so hard! I went down a few times (sitting down) but the hike back up left me sore for 2 days! The guide joked that I was "riding doubles"!

We weren't able to stay for long because we had another tour to go on after lunch. Our driver took us into town and said "you have 20 minutes to eat."
.
As we stood in line to order our food, Jake realized that he had lost his wallet. He was sweating bullets (literal and figurative bullets). It was not a good moment....but we found it in my bag 10 minutes later. We both have no idea how is ended up in my bag..... it was just another miracle.
.
Before leaving on vacation, we promised each other we would try different foods.
.
I don't really like meat....especially hamburger. (which is outrageous that I craved hamburger helper earlier in this baby making adventure). But I decided to go out on a limb and order the Hawaiian Hamburger... in Australia of all places.

I had no idea what I was getting myself into. This bad boy had pineapple, bacon, a fried egg, cheese, beats, tomato, lettuce, BBQ sauce, onions..... IT WAS THE MOST DELICIOUS BURGER I HAVE EVER HAD!. Whoa dang, it was good!
.
Then we get on this boat to go "swimming with the dolphins." *Keep in mind that the district manager's assistant planned this trip from Washington a few weeks prior to the trip.
Within the first 10 minutes of this boat ride we saw some penguins and a few dolphins.

On the side of the boat there was this large net. In order to "swim with this dolphins" you had to get in the net. I opted out (along with 4 other smart ones) but everyone else got it. They lower the net into the water (with everyone in) and they drive the boat around to spot dolphins. *And you are not allowed to get out of the net.
.
It was hilarious to watch.
.
I am pretty sure the closest dolphin was about 30 yards away.

Of course we all still had a blast.

About 1/2 way home our driver stopped to get gas....$6/gallon gas. We all went into the McDonald's and genius Jake discovered that the ice cream cones were only $.50. I don't think I have mentioned the cost of living in Australia yet. The exchange rate was about $.92 to the Australian $1.00. But a can on soda was $2.75. If you want to splurge and order a soda at a restaurant, you pay about $6.....and there is no such thing as a refill. The minimum wage is about $17/hour. Their waiters and waitresses don't work for tips so the service is not anything like we would get/pay for in America. One morning Jake and I bought a muffin and 3 bananas as a convenient store and it cost $7.20. So ice cream for $.50 was something to scream for.

Later that night we went out for some food. You couldn't go anywhere without stopping a million times to take a picture of something. It is just beautiful there.

This night I had fish and chips. Oh, so good! We hung out with our friends Daric & Amber pretty much every night of the entire trip.

(Ginger Beer. So delicious. Of course it is non-alcoholic so pregnant ladies can drink it!)
Ice cream twice in a day...yes! We stopped for Gelato again on our way back to the hotel. This time we each had our own!
