Jake's 27

It was/is Jake's birthday today. He turned 27. I know. He's getting old. We're getting old. (I'm kidding!) He came home and played with with the monster child. They're cute together. Everett gets extra squirmy and wiggly when Jake walks through the front door and he can't wait for dad to come play with him. Dads are always so much more fun than Moms. (playing peek-a-boo with Jake's beanie) (Everett is really excited for his first birthday, can you tell?!) I had 1/2 a box of yellow cake mix in the cupboard and threw this bad boy together last minute. I knew we would each only have a bite and then throw the rest away... so I wasn't too worried about the way it looked! (And of course Jake doesn't care) He said work was good. He also said that it was such a good birthday because so many people called to say happy birthday and all of the comments on Facebook made him so happy. Jake says that he's content being 27 and doesn't want to get a...

Some Days

It snowed again. I snuck outside to take a few pictures while Everett was taking his morning nap Some days I am just blown away at how beautiful it is here.

Sorely Stressed

My cold sore quadrupled in size. It's now the size of a dime. It's huge. HUGE. Even the inside of my lip is swollen. Poor me. I am no stranger to cold sores. Too much stress = big fat cold sore. I am super stressed about leaving Everett for a week. He is staying with Jake's family while we are on our cruise. I have no doubt that they will take care of him..... but you know, Moms just worry about stuff. I have started to pack things to take to my in-laws house for Everett. It's a little crazy the amount of stuff a baby/mom needs. Clothes Diapers Wipes Rash cream Pacifiers Bottle Formula Miralax Baby food Bibs High chair Jumperoo Toys Toys Toys Dilators Orajel Baby Tylenol Baby bath tub Baby towels Lotion And to think that our greatest of grandparents didn't have a majority of those things... I crossed one thing off of the list today. I made baby food. Everett is obviously my first child, so this is my first time making baby food. If anyone is interested in ...

7 Minutes And 7 Months

Today was nuts. A few too many things went in the wrong direction. Lets just say that I'm getting a cold sore. That pretty much explains my day. Everett is 7 months today. 7 month old Everett likes bath splash time, loves to eat carrots, won't open his mouth for anything green, goes crazy without his pacifier and still has pooper problems. His surgery is scheduled for Jan 14th.  He makes a lot of boy noises, gets startled very easily and still snuggles like a cactus. He's getting a little chunky, is still super long and has to wear 12 month jammies. He started to do a forward army crawl the other day. He's been doing a modified version for a month but just now got the hang of it. He's been able to go backwards for a while now. As for actual crawling.... he'll get up on all fours and just rock. Occasionally he'll move his hands or maybe a knee, but no real crawling. We went to a party about a week ago and there was a lot of shouting/yelling/loud noise...

This Christmas

Our Christmas tree. I moved it twice and redecorated it three times. By Christmas day it was in our living room decorated with every ornament we owned.... including the ones from our childhood. (The snowman is Everett's first Christmas ornament, the reindeer is from my 1st grade teacher and the rest were the ones Jake got every year from his parents when he was a kid.) I really love our tree this year. It brought peace and happiness to us, especially while Everett was in so much teething pain. Christmas was truly magical this year. There is something about having a child that makes it that much more special. It's hard to explain the joy a little person can bring into your life. I got this little scooter at Goodwill the other day for $5. It was the best $5 I have ever spent! Ev opening some gifts from his grandparents. An owl hat Bridget made. Jake got a few gifts and then said "Wow, there's nothing like getting told you're fat on Christmas." I ga...

All He Wanted

All he wanted for Christmas was his two front teeth. And he got them on Christmas Eve. He also got to open up his Christmas Jammies on Christmas Eve. Then Jake made the best hot chocolate in the whole wide world and we drove around looking at lights. Then we put this little booger to bed and anxiously waited for Christmas morning. Christmas morning came a little too early and lasted a little too long. He woke up at 3:45 and cried until 6:45. His Christmas teeth were coming in and he was in major pain. He's never cried like that. Ever. We seriously tried everything we could think of. Finally we stood in the dark living room and turned the Christmas tree lights on. It calmed him down enough to fall asleep (he was pretty much just screaming in his sleep). It was the longest morning ever. We didn't have any medicine for him and every store was closed. Perfect timing. But he's better now. After all, he did get what he wanted...

2nd Time Around

I got some serious good deals at goodwill a few days ago. It was one of those I'll just stop by kind of trips. Within a few minutes I had to walk back up to the front of the store to grab a cart. I'll have to wait until after Christmas to post some of the treasures, but here are the toys I picked up for Stinky Pants. Back in the toy isle they have big bags of toys for $4. SCORE! Look at all of those balls and rubber ducks... and after a good scrubbing in the bath tub, they're good as new.

I Surrender

This is how I've felt for the last two days: Like my head is smooched in a corset My nose is a leaky faucet I've been punched in both kidneys Someone rubbed sandpaper under my nose My throat is lined with chili peppers Someone squeezed my eyeballs until they teared up I wake up in the middle of the night for no good reason And when I try to breath I sound like someone off of Star Wars. I'm sick So Jake got up with Everett this morning and was feeding him breakfast when I walked upstairs. Ev was wearing this awesome bandanna. I grabbed the camera to take a picture.... and he surrendered all by himself. I love this kid!

T For Me

A few months ago (okay, maybe like 9 or 10) my friend sent me a box full of old ties. She was going to give them to the thrift store... but then she thought of me. I am so glad she did! I have been trying to rack my brain (for all 9 or 10 of these months) trying to think of what I could make out of them.                      (Everett helping me sew... the box of ties and Ev crawling backwards into the closet) There was one tie that I FELL IN LOVE WITH. I begged Jake to wear it but he ignored my plea. I thought about sending some to my brother... because he'll wear any tie. But being the hoarder that I am, I kept them all. ............ Before we left for Australia I went to Target and bought this bag: (Sweet picture right? I was 32 weeks pregnant and dreading the 14 hour plane ride home.) ............. We are going on a cruise the week after Christmas...
