Christmas Holiday 2012

We weren't able to carry on several traditions this year (including cookie decorating and gingerbread house making) which was a huge bummer, but we still had a good Christmas holiday.  In Everett's true holiday fashion, he got sick. He had a runny nose for an entire week before Christmas, a fever two of those days, and then Christmas Eve morning he got a bunch of chicken pox-like red spots around his mouth and a lighter rash over the rest of his body. But he seemed to feel okay which was good.  Christmas Eve day my brother and his family came to see us. My dad and his wife (Kelly) were able to come as well and spend a little time with us. They brought some gifts for the boys and they knew exactly what the boys would love. Cars camping chairs, cups, and T-shirt, socks, undies, and a book that makes noises when you lift the flap. Grandparents always give the best gifts! That night we had the most delicious Christmas ham, scalloped pot...

The Chair

I realized that I didn't post an after picture of the chair I worked so hard on.... and that's because I didn't take an after picture until today! So here's a post designated just to the new nursery chair.  But first, I have to show how nasty it was again! The chair was covered in a nice beige material with a small, subtle pattern (that the dirt magnified) as seen below: So here's the before and after: Now it's covered in bright white with a more bold pattern.  Here's my little model, Everett.  The rocking ottoman is great for running in the room and jumping on belly first and "flying" back and forth! I have a feeling this might be his preferred activity while I sit in the chair and nurse for hours on end.  I really love how it turned out. It took forever and I worked so hard, but it paid off.  When I took the chair all apart, I was able to reuse the seat cushion zippe...

Hard Work

Last Friday night we bought my Christmas present; a nice, filthy, display model rocking chair & ottoman for the nursery.  It was dirty dirty dirty. I sat in it for a long time at the baby store. It was extremely comfortable but just so dirty. Before we decided to buy it I thought about getting it professionally cleaned, cleaning it myself, buying a slip cover, or reupholstering it. I decided that I'd just reupholster it so that I could have exactly the look I was going for. So we bought it and brought it home. It was in the nursery overnight and by Saturday morning I decide that It was too filthy to be in my new baby room and needed to be worked on right away.  Turns out the timing of this chair worked out pretty good. Jake was in his final week of training so I pretty much was a single mom all week. I had naptime everyday and all evening to work on this bad boy.  I was really nervous to reupholster the chair... I started by taking every single st...

Mostly Good

In a few short months Jake and I have become little pansies. It's been much cooler these last few days (still in the 50's-60's) but we miss the warm. Last night Jake even said "I know I'll take this back, but I miss Summer!" Friday and Saturday were cold and wet. It made us LOVE living here even more as the weather outside made us remember why we worked so hard to move here.  Friday night we went out looking for my Christmas gift... a rocking chair for baby girl's nursery. I've been looking for months and the price tags are quite steep for a comfortable chair. We hated ourselves for not getting a rocking chair with Everett and I was afraid we'd just end up with another uncomfortable chair because the nice ones are almost robbery. But we ended up finding an extremely comfortable "sofa rocking chair" on clearance from $599 to $119. It was beige and the floor model so it needs to be recovered... but to save $480 we were all over...
