A Touch Of Tyrell

Last night we met Jake at Chipotle for dinner. Breckie ate some beans and Everett ate a few chips while complaining (incessantly) that he wanted french fries… Jake and I couldn't even start a conversation before being interrupted by the plea for fries let alone hear the birds chirping or enjoy the warm evening.  It was one of those, "well this really isn't that fun" kind of dining experiences.  So afterwards I took the kids to IN-N-OUT so Everett could have his cries… I mean fries… and I ordered Breckie a burger since they're only two bucks.  After a few fries Everett asked me if he could have some of Breckie's burger and I almost died!!! But I didn't show any surprise or excitement. I just cut it in half and gave it to him and he ate it!  And that's not all. He asked for "sauce." I was so confused until I realized he was talking about ketchup and then they both ate ketchup on their fries and Everett asked f...

The last couple of days Everett and I have been playing badminton. He's actually pretty good! He's only 4 and can actually serve the birdie half of his tries and we can hit it back and forth pretty good. It's awesome.  He served the birdie once and completely missed and said, "damn." Totally calm and nonchalant.  I didn't even say anything because I wasn't sure if I had heard him right and then he said, "mom I said damn" and I busted up laughing.  Neither Jake or I swear so it was just so funny to me.  He says he can't remember where he heard it but I'm pretty sure youtube might be the culprit. Sometimes he'll watch a video on how to beat a Lego batman level.  I'm really not mad since it was such a harmless "bad word."  In fact, I had such a good laugh about it that it was almost the highlight of my day! And then the coconut popsicle that followed was pretty great too :)

Everett's preschool had a trip to the fire station today. The coolest part was that they had a real emergency and had to leave while we were there! But first they got to check out the station and then the trucks.  They got to watch one of the firefighters put on his suit: They also got to go inside of the truck.  Everett was the first kid in the truck and then a few more got to check it out before the alarm went off. They just opened up the garage door and we all went out and a few seconds later they were pulling out. It was actually quite impressive and fun to see.  A few minutes later a different truck came back and let us take a picture with it. Then we all went to the park and splash pad, ate lunch and got fire hats. I'd say it was a pretty memorable field trip for Everett!

So the men from church have held a prom for the last three years and this year was the first year we've gone… probably because Jake helped plan it this year so we kind-of had to go! Jake isn't much of a dancer :) (In fact, Saturday night was literally the first time we've EVER danced. Not joking.) The men were encouraged to ask their wives to the dance creatively… as if they were still going to prom.   Jake was SOOOOO creative and asked me JUST like his girlfriend had asked him to a dance in high school. Awesome Jake.  At least one of the fish glows in the dark… so that was a little redeeming :) We fed them a little beta fish food (because we have a beta fish and that's all the fish food we had) and then next morning they were all dead except the glow-in-the-dark yellow fish… he's pretty much a magical fish.  So about the prom: It was SUPER fun. Jake and I danced for the first time ever.  I laughed a lot… at Jake.  ...

How can your day be bad if it starts like this:??  I'm convinced it can't.  The last few days were a little rocky. Just for me.  Absolutely nothing happened but I just couldn't be happy no matter how hard I tried.  Some days are just like that, you know!? And then some days are glorious and everything is amazing and nothing can get you down.  But I think most days are in-between somewhere :) But any day is better when it starts with the sun and my mountain bike!

Tuesday through Thursday I pick the boys up from preschool and we always go to the park after. Luckily there are tons of parks on the way home but there is this one SUPER nice park in the neighborhood of their preschool that has a covered/shaded park and a pond (and a pool, splash pad, volleyball pit, basketball court, etc…). We've been able to see personal-pizza sized turtles, ducks, and lots of fish in the pond and one day a dad even brought his blue macaw (and his 4 kids) to the park and Rhett was in love. He asked 196,653 questions about the bird and the man was so patient to answer all of them. My kids, of course, wouldn't even touch the bird with a 10-foot stick.  *My little dare-devil, crazy-hair Breckie. Toes over the edge with her hands in her pockets! We've enjoyed our afternoons at the park and I'll be SUPER sad when it gets too hot. But that can only mean one thing… ice cream instead! I really don't think they'll be too ...

I don't really have an official "bucket list" but I have one in my head that I add to all of the time. I'm not sure when I added triathlon to the list but it was on there and now I've done one!  I guess the Boy Scouts of America/Varsity Scouts (I know pretty much nothing about boy scouts…) holds a triathlon in Pima, AZ every year and this year the 16-18 year old young women from church were invited to participate. Lucky for me, I teach the girls on Sundays so I got to participate too!  We drove the 3 hours there Friday night, registered, got our numbers/packets/shirts, the youth had a dance, and then finally ate dinner at 10:00 pm! We got to stay the night with relatives of Sister Morris' which was amazing since everyone else slept outside, in a field, on the ground :) The next morning they even made me farm-fresh scrambled eggs! Everett's speech therapy school was having a little petting zoo to end their week of talking about farm animals. So we brought Marty McFly, I mean Rhett since he likes animals too and this little pony was the cutest. The horse was the most mad, the sheep was the naughtiest and dirtiest, the donkey was the calmest, the goats were the wildest, and the chickens were just roaming around.   Haha, and I didn't even notice the guys shirt until now :)

I was in charge of keeping 5 kids alive for about 5 minutes today… here's how it happened: First, Everett is growing way too fast and needed some new shorts so we went to Old Navy because I had a coupon and a gift card. 3 pairs of shorts and one ninja turtle shirt later I was taking this cute picture and realized that Everett could pass for a 7 or 8-year-old. He is/looks huge and so grown up! Then we met the Millers at Discovery Park to feed the ducks (and baby ducks!) our stale bread and Cheerios.  It's always fun for the kids and I'm not going to lie… I like it too :) We even got to see a little turtle.  And let's be amazed that Julia got a picture of all four of them looking!
