Halloween 2019

Two witches, black panther, a mermaid, and wolverine... we all went trick-or-treating Halloween night.  It's always a little chaotic and we ended up with the neighbors & the Smith's so we were a pretty big group to keep track of.  The decorations this year were intense! They were all so good and some of them were pretty scary! Someone even turned their garage into a haunted house to walk through! One neighbor gave out cotton candy again and another neighbor had a hot dog stand in their driveway and another was playing a Halloween movie on their projector.  One house had a GIANT clown that was super creepy and talked and as you got closer to their front door, spiders jumped out at you and their was a fog machine and scary music... it was crazy.  In the daylight it doesn't seem so bad, but it was a little freaky for the kids! One neighbor even had a fountain of "blood" in their front yard.  We all got TONS of candy. Everett ...

Halloween Dinners

Halloween dinners were fun this year with a few added ideas & accessories. One Sunday afternoon Everett made sugar cookies...  ... so we decorated them the next evening after having mummy pizza and bone breadsticks.  One night we "carved" our own orange bell peppers, stuffed them and ate them! We had skull ice cubes in our "skeleton blood" (LOL) KoolAid! We had a huge mummy ham & cheese turnover with graveyard dirt & worms.  We always have a good time decorating cookies. We have some HUGE halloween cutouts, so we each decorated one and some small ones.  I am a huge fan of Roxy's cats! On our final Halloween dinner, we had potion to drink...  ...we carved and painted pumpkins... ... and had a giant burrito skull, spider web bean dip,  monster eye tacos, witch hat chips & bean salsa,  and jello brains (with spiders and worms) for dessert. We comb...

Messes

While unloading the dishwasher, Breckie had a brilliant idea to make "water fountains" out of the newly clean plasticware 😅 I SOOOOOO encourage crafts and imagination (I also encourage cleaning up) but we all know how that goes.  And then there is this monster.  After we rolled out sugar cookie she made her own flour creations.  Jake was at the dunes for 5 whole days and 3 of those days Breckie stayed home sick and 1 day Everett stayed home sick (and 1 of those days Breckie was sick, Roxy had sick diarrhea at preschool and had to come home in all new clothes) and 1 day was trunk-or-treat. But we managed.  Everett and I played scrabble the day he stayed home.... it was a pretty great match! As a side note: Everett decided to read the 4th Harry Potter book for his book report (that he has 6 weeks to complete) and it's a 734 page book 😅 I have no doubt he'll finish in time.  I've been reading A LOT this ...

Dune Da-Du-Du-Dunes

I should probably make a shortcut on my keyboard to write two heading.... one would be:  We Went to Colorado  and the other would be:  Jake Went to the Dunes.  The best part for me is that every dunes trip gives me more ammo to do whatever I want 😉 Not really, but kind-of :) Jake only crashed once, they watched ONE WHOLE season of a show (at night when they weren't riding),  and Jake came back to a family that missed him and an office full of work waiting for him.  He deserves all the play time he wants!

Trunk-or-Treat

The sickness I had at the beginning of September (the nasty snot-wad cough and stomach pains during my race over the mountain) the rest of the family came down with last week. Luckily Everett got over it pretty quickly but it lingered longer for Jake and even longer for Breckie.  She doesn't have a pain tolerance at all, so it was really hard to gauge exactly how sick she was. But one night she puked for an entire hour and ended dry heaving the night away. Sadly she puked until things were coming out both ends.  Then we knew she was really sick.  She missed three days of school this week.  But luckily she was feeling much better by trunk-or-treat tonight.  She was an adorable witch, Everett was black panther, and Roxy was a mermaid.  The kids always look forward to fun stuff like this and had a good time. Then the candy sorting and trading and negotiating followed tonight :)  It's so fun to have kids their...

Decorating Like a Crazy Lady

Our house is coming along. It's going to look super great!  I think I was hopeful that our kitchen would be done by Halloween... it's going to be a close call! I design, decorate, and make decisions like a crazy person. Jake is so used to it that he hardly gives me a hard time anymore. I think it's partly due to the fact that it usually looks pretty good in the end.  I usually paint a room at least twice (sometimes more) before I get the color right, furniture usually ends up in a different spot than where I planned it to go and I return things like crazy. But this is just the way it goes for me... it's all part of the journey, I guess :) Roxy and I are constantly at furniture stores, stores with decorations, and home improvement stores.  She's a pretty good shopping buddy! She really doesn't complain about shopping at all... in fact, most of the time I even get a YAY! out of her when I tell her we are going shopping :)
