At Least the Doughnuts Didn't Disappoint

Our trip to Steamboat Springs was canceled in March. And now that COVID-19 has gone on for so long, our trip to Costa Rica in August is now canceled as well. So has the yearly Summer Regional. (all through Edward Jones) I'm hoping at some point life can go on. I think we all feel like life in on hold right now.  But we are finding joy in the little things. Like getting doughnuts from Jake's regional leader just for fun.  Roxy ate TWO of them!!! She's never even eaten a piece of bread before... but apparently if you deep fry it and cover it with a sugary glaze she will :)

Westin La Paloma ~ Summer Regional #1

Although we were about to die of exhaustion and still weren't unpacked (from moving), we packed up Thursday morning and headed to Tucson for Jake's annual work retreat. Brecklyn and Everett both slept most of the two hour car trip.  We pulled up to the hotel lobby, Jake checked us in and then said: "OH NOOOOOOO! I forgot my suit jackets and shirts."  That's probably not the best thing to do being the new guy.  Immediately after we checked in Jake had a meeting. So he borrowed a shirt from a friend (luckily he remembered his suit pants!) Later we all had a meeting and then had a nice BBQ outside. They even had balloon animals and face painting for the kids.  We lost Brecklyn's pacifier.  The next morning Jake had meetings until noon (and wore the same borrowed shirt from the day before!) and the spouses also had a meeting. (They had babysitting which Everett seemed to enjoy.) Once Jake was done with his meetings f...

Jake At Work

Everett likes to visit Jake at work... I wonder why ;)

Crew vs. Sounders

On Saturday, Jake and I worked the pre-game for the Columbia Crew vs. Seattle Sounders game. I HAAAAAAAATE working the pre-game but you get to watch the game after... so it's worth it. We also got some Top Pot donuts and got to go out onto the field before the game started (because Amfam is one of the sponsors). I'm secretly glad Jake talked me into working the pre-game because it was such a great game to watch. It was so exciting and a lot of goals were scored. The final score was 6-2 (Sounders won).  Crew scored on this penalty kick There was a guy- in his twenties- two rows in front of us who slept through 90% of the game. We're pretty sure he was drunk/hungover/high/on drugs or something because no one should have slept through so much noise and cheering (plus he couldn't operate his phone and couldn't figure out what section he was sitting in). Poor kid. Maybe he missed D.A.R.E. classes in Elementary school. Then there was a girl- in her twenties- si...

Petroglyphs

Sunday morning we woke up early and went to go see the petroglyphs. They were within walking distance from the hotel and we hadn't seen them yet. (The sign that explains about the petroglyphs)   I was really fascinated by the petroglyphs and the history behind them. On one of the first days we were in Hawaii we heard one of the locals say that the Big Island is the spiritual island- I was starting to understand what he meant. Then we flew home. I was so sad to leave Hawaii but soooo excited to see Everett. Jake slept a majority of the flight home but it seemed like every time I looked at him, his face was peeling more and more. The sunburn on his forehead blistered and then peeled off... just like the sunburn on his chest, back, scalp, and arms. Jake's parents picked us up from the airport around 8:00 Sunday evening and the sky was dark and angry. I have never seen WA look so ugly and depressing in my entire life. I wanted to grab Everett and fly back to ...

Waipio Valley & Akaka Falls

Saturday morning we got up early. We were up at 5 and we left the hotel by 6. We were headed to Waipio Valley and Akaka Falls. Some of our friends had been up there a few days earlier and stopped for lunch along the way. They were headed to a restaurant that someone recommend... but when they got there it didn't look like something they would be interested in. So they stopped at a little diner because there were tons of cars in the parking lot... they said that the place was packed and that it was the best Hawaiian food they had ever had. Anna (our adventurous friend) asked one of the hotel workers about this little diner the night before and he said, "Oh, yeah, it's the best Hawaiian food on the island but on Saturday morning there is always a wait, even before they open." We took our chances. As we were driving up the island, it started to get really cold and it started to rain on us. We were super bummed because we were all in shorts and the top of the Jeep was o...
