Sledding in Flagstaff

The leaves turn such beautiful colors in December and January. Ironically, we left the "Fall" colors behind and headed to Flagstaff to find Winter.  The kids didn't have school on MLK Jr. day, so we bundled up and went sledding.  The snow wasn't new/fresh, and it was a little muddy in parts but it was still really fun.  I think Roxy and Breckie had the most fun. Roxy is such a daredevil and within the first three times down the little hill she wanted to go face first on her tummy! It was really adorable to see how much they enjoyed it.  There were 5 groomed sled hills with specific paths to walk up & stand in line. I had to pep-talk Everett into hiking up every time! I think in his mind the effort-to-fun ratio was off 😄 The girls were spoiled and Jake pulled them up in the tubes.  Each kid took a turn whining and there was plenty on complaining but I think it turned into one of those things that the kids will remem...

Treasure Hunting

One thing I really love to do while we are in Colorado is to hunt for treasures. There is just something  fun about finding something cool for your home in a place that is so far away. It makes for a good story and it will probably be something unique.  I promised the family we'd go to the Chocolate Factory. Don't they look thrilled????!  Again, I whispered "this is SO pretty" a thousand times into town.  The first place we went had some cool things but they were pretty spendy. $350 for the old typewriter! We found a really cool one at a vintage market in October for a tenth of the price.  We stopped by true thrift store and I bought Everett a new pair of soccer cleats for $1.50! Then the Chocolate Factory, as promised.  It was SOOOOOOOO cold that day. Like maybe 10 degrees as the high.  The whole WHOLE family (all of us + Effie & Tillie, Mom, Tim & Braxton) ended up at lunch togethe...

Purgatory, Bowling & Serious Texas

Roxy still isn't much of an eater but Grammy is determined to help Roxy eat real food :)  So she had frozen blueberries from a cup for breakfast.  For Jake's birthday present, he went snowboarding at Purgatory. He left that morning and we found a can of diet coke that he put outside to chill but then forgot about 😅 Today was the kind of winter day I always remember. The cold, crisp, snowy and sunshiny bliss that Colorado has to offer.  The kids and I played outside for a good while (I gave Everett my jacket because his was a little too small and mine fit him perfect). I took them on a double sled ride down the 'dirt' road. I figured it would double as my workout for the day. I ran with them up the road.  When we got to the end of the road, Grammy was conveniently coming back from getting new snow tires so I sat on her bumper and we rode behind her car on the way back to the house.  Good thing Jake was gone. H...

New Year, Tillie & Orange Rolls

Bridget, Mom and I stayed up till midnight putting together a puzzle (this makes me sound ancient!!!) and as soon as it was 12:00 we went to bed 😁 We spent the day just hanging around the house.  A big reason we came to Colorado was because Effie and Tillie were going to be there. Colorado was their pitstop on their way to move to Alaska so we knew we wouldn't see them as much.  It was Wintery and snowed all day. It was so beautiful! We ate snow, hung around, Tim built a fire to burn trash #countrylife and the kids had fun kicking snow into it.  Tim took them on a sled ride. He pulled them behind the tractor and they loved it! I'm so thankful our kids get to experience the joy of country life. We're so lucky to be able to give them these experiences.  The snow just kept piling up! When everyone went inside I stayed out and took a walk down the dirt rode. I just couldn't go inside. Not when I'd only ge...
