Oh Boys!

You might think that it's a tiny bit ridiculous that Everett has a navy blue and a baby blue bucket hat... ... but he doesn't! The baby blue hat belongs to his Best Bud, Sawyer: We've had Sawyer over a few times to play and the two boys have a lot of fun together. (Sawyer reading a book to Everett) The two boys are as cute as can be but as different as can be... and that's why they are best buds already.   Sawyer is a really good eater. He even steals snacks right out of Ev's hands! He also points at everything. (Everett is always chewing on his pointer finger) Sawyer has little paws for hands and Twinkies for feet whereas Everett has piano fingers and long skinny feet. (Sawyers paws) He does a bear crawl when the ground it too hard or when he is on the grass. Everett does a little prance crawl on and over everything... no matter how sharp, poky, or hard it is (sometimes I think Everett gets rug burn from how fast and hard he crawls). (Smart lit...

Smhorseshoes

We had some friends over last night. We played a few rounds of horseshoes and then made s'mores over the campfire. It was awesome. We roasted marshmallows, melted chocolate, and got chunky while talking about the world ending and Indians. The things that come out around a campfire! This morning I went out to our firepit to check on things... I found our roasting sticks, the horseshoes, and this: Yep, that's the chair Jake and I were sitting in! I told you we were getting chunky!

Spanglish

Earlier this week, I cried for hours. I even cried myself to sleep. I had checked out a book from the library on parenting. I wanted Jake and I to read it together because I hate trying to tell Jake how to do something that I'm not even sure how to do myself. But I couldn't wait and I started reading the book by myself. About 30 pages in I was feeling a knot in my chest tighten and I couldn't read anymore. A few minutes later Jake came into the room and asked what I was up to. I started telling him about the book and then I started crying. Even sobbing. I understand the magnitude of parenting. I get it... and that's why it is so hard for me. I know that all people and parents make mistakes and that children don't normally remember much before the age of 3, but I wanted to make sure that I was doing- or at least trying to do- things right to begin with. Because, you know, it's hard to teach an old dog new tricks. I wanted to start parenting the r...

Tai Chi And Me

I really love the fitness classes at the gym. I much prefer to go to one of those than do the treadmill, or any other machine, for an hour. It goes by so much faster and I work out so much harder. I saw that Tai Chi was on the schedule for our prime time to go to the gym. I didn't know what Tai Chi was so I googled it. It said something like "improves strength, balance, and blood circulation... martial arts... popular with the elderly..." I thought maybe it was like yoga a little bit. I get there 5 minutes before class is scheduled to start and I am the only one there. A few minutes later two elderly ladies walk in. One of them (her name was like LaVerna or something) came up and said "Hi" and asked if I had even done Tai Chi before. I said that I hadn't but was pretty excited to find out what it was all about. She talked it up like it was the greatest thing since color television. Then she asked me if I was on facebook. She was like 90! (Apparently the ...

Hilarity

hi·lar·i·ty /həˈle(ə)ritē/ Noun 1. Extreme amusement, esp. when expressed by laughter. 2. Boisterous merriment. Everett makes my laugh (out loud) everyday. Sometimes it is out of pure frustration... but most of the time it's because he's doing something that I find hilarious. 1. Everett was in the tub Friday night after a long day of playing in the dirt. As he splashed his hands wildly in the bath water the filth slowly washed off of his hands and body. During one of his splashing episodes he found his manhood... it was so hilarious to watch. He accidentally splashed his man parts and started laughing. Using his thumb and pointer finger he stretched it out and laughed again. He went back to splashing and then stretching and then splashing... it was so funny. I couldn't help but bust up because he was so amused with himself and his laugh was so mischievous. Boys. 2. I was vacuuming the stairs last night with the hose attachment. Everett, who was right by my side t...

Defeated

Dear Journal, Sometimes I feel like I shouldn't write what's on my mind, but I can't help but let it all out tonight. At 11:30 this morning Everett and I were walking down 148th Street. We were both still in our pajamas and I was barefoot. (Everett has a million nicknames, but the most recent in Laundry Maker because he goes through about 4 outfits a day... so I leave him in his pajamas as long as they are still clean. As for me, I see no point in wearing nice or uncomfortable clothes as long as no one cares... and I really don't think Everett cares.)  If Everett is awake and it is nice outside, it means we are out there getting dirty. So we were outside this morning and I put Everett in his walker. Whenever I put him in his walker he immediately walks from the back patio, around the house, through the front driveway and into the street. This morning I didn't even bother to put shoes on so we looked extra white-trashy playing in the road at 11:30 in our pa...

Blocks And Books

Holy hot dogs it rained today. We stayed inside all day and played with blocks. We are obsessed with blocks lately. Sometimes I barely get one block on top of the other before Everett swipes the tower away. His friend, Audrey, taught him how to wreck towers and he is one mean tower wrecker, thanks to her. We were also entertained, for a very long time, by putting the blocks into an old snack container and then putting the lid on... then whining at mom because we couldn't get the lid off... and then doing it a thousand more times. I really do love how smart and creative Everett is getting. I also tried to read several stories to Everett today. He likes to steal the book that I am reading... so I get another one and he steals that one... so we do this a thousand time a day too. I am really looking forward to the day when I can crawl into bed with him and read him story after story. I can't wait until he begs me to read just one more story!? I can't wait for it so bad tha...
