Dresser Makeover. Girly To Manly. Changing Table To Dresser.

I bought this dresser/changing table at the Goodwill last February.   It's been a nice... but Everett hasn't let us change his diaper on it for quite a while.  I've always wanted to beef up the dresser because it was so girly... it seems like most of Everett's furniture (and his bedroom) was previously owned by a girl.  It was time for a dresser makeover.  I put some nice, dark knobs on it and took the changing table portion off. I thought that the top of the dresser was convertible (you know, from a changing table to a regular dresser top) but it wasn't.  After removing the rails I was left with a very hole-y and scratched surface. I thought about filling in the holes and then painting the top white... but it's just MDF and I didn't think it would look as good as it sounded. So I bought some pine instead. I had Jake cut it to the right size, and then I sanded it and stained it.  (I bevel...

My Sanity

Have you ever felt that you REALLY deserved something but didn't get it? Or have you ever felt that you have something but you don't deserve it? For me... yes, and yes. And this post is about a (good) thing that I have but don't deserve. *** A friend of mine has a really cute blog ( infertility-spoiled eggs ) and about 15 months ago she had a guest blogger write about motherhood. Everett was just shy of turning 6 months old... which is why I didn't understand the guest blogger's "secret" to motherhood:  So that's that. To be a mom, you've got to have a good friend and you've got to be a good friend. Your husband will thank you. Your kids will thank you! Your sanity will be in check and your life will be better.   That is all. . Honestly, I felt that having friends had nothing to do with being a mother. Now I know better. She is right. 100% right. If I made a survival guide to motherhood, having friends would be in the top ...

Puddle Jumping

We haven't had this much fun in a long time.  Everett was singing and dancing and having the best time stomping in the rain puddles. He kept pointing at me and then pointing to the other rain puddle. He wanted me to join in on the fun :)  He would throw rocks in and watch the water ripple.  He'd squat at one end of the puddle and then stand up and run through it. It's his version of ready, set, go and he thinks it's a race.  He tripped and landed right in the puddle once. After the initial shock of cold water he was fine. He got right back up and splashed away.  Then it started pouring on us. I had to pick him up like a 30-pound sack of potatoes (that kicked and screamed) just to get him inside.  We were soaked but had a blast! Enjoy!

It Spells Love

Valentine's Day is kind-of a fun, little holiday. Everett was still miserably sick, but we managed to celebrate a little. We made Jake a really cool scratch Valentine's Day card. We also made a heart-shaped pizza: (One half pepperoni and jalapeƱos and the other half pepperoni and pineapple) ...and heart-shaped strawberries to dip in chocolate ganache.  Dinner was delish. The pizza was super tasty and the strawberries and chocolate HAS TO BE a new tradition. We also had salad. Salad schmalad. After dinner we exchanged gifts and it became obvious that we should have gifted each other Hooked-On-Phonics instead.  It's an ongoing joke that Jake's muscles keep getting smaller. (Jake worked construction when we got married... now he works behind a desk.) So I was teasing him a little in his card... but really the joke was on me because I spelled muscles... mussels. Whoops. (I gave Jake a few tools that he requested).  ...

Hotter Than A Hotcake

This little person isn't happy at all. He's pretty sick actually. He's been drooling gallons, coughing, pulling at his ears, whinging, and crying for two days. And he's hotter than a hotcake. Poor guy. He's miserable. We're miserable.
