A Touch Of Tyrell

For the second year in a row, we spend the Memorial Day weekend in Mexico (which seems so backwards!).  But it's a tradition for the families we go with so it's kind-of a thing now :) I didn't really take very many pictures.  The last day of school was Thursday and then Friday morning we drove down to Mexico. It ended up taking 6+ hours with the traffic and getting across the border. Sleeping that night was extra fun. All 5 of us in one little room and the mattress were like EXTRA EXTRA EXTRA ultra-mega firm.  I didn't even know they made mattresses that hard! So I was up early and took a walk on the beach. We played in the water and on the beach ALLLLLL day that day. The kids had a blast in the water and we built castles in the sand. It was actually a tiny bit chilly (especially if you were wet). The very last morning I woke up early again. Everett was so bummed that I didn't wake him up to walk the beach with me the morning before so I woke him up.  We found a few cool things before we went back to the house to pack up and head home.  We assumed the border we take a few minutes to get through so we stopped for some snacks and discovered that Roxy was snacking on a wax candle. That girls eats everything but food!! Sure enough, we waiting in the line to cross the border for over an hour. Roxy didn't sleep a minute of the drive home so it seemed to take forever... but we made it and have lots of fun memories from our trip to Mexico. We're hoping to go back again next year!

Our last full day in Mexico was one of my favorites. I woke up well before everyone else so I went to walk the beach to see what I could find. It was an abnormally calm morning with no wind or waves at all. I was wearing some shorts with back pockets and when I found a cool shell I would put it in my back pocket. And then one moved and freaked me out! It still had a crab in it!!! I was mostly grossed out (remember the ocean isn't really my thing) but still excited to show the kids.  I think everyone was equally fascinated! Roxy and I both spent the most time in the water on our last day. I guess it was about time :) Later we found a dead crab. Like freshly dead.  I even found a sand dollar in two feet of water! Only because it was still calm water :) The tide was WAAAAAY out and there were no waves so it was a lot easier to play with the kids.  Just for the sake of remembering... Sunday was Everett's birthday. We both woke up at 6 am so we took a walk down the beach.  I had JUST finished telling him about sand dollars and then two minutes later we found our first one! I was so pumped; I love sand dollars! We ended up finding 8 sand dollars before heading back to the house.  We also found some ocean life treasures... you know... like poop in the ocean. There's that classic ocean vs. mountains question and I'll always say mountains. I love the mountains. When I get the chance, I'm going to visit all the mountains and climb the ones I'm not terrified of. Honestly, I still wish we could have moved to Utah just so I could see the mountains on the daily. BUT we didn't, and Mexico is only 4 hours away and Jake loves the ocean. So I 'll ignore how much the ocean stinks and sometimes terrifies me :) It's all of the unknowns in the water... like poop!
