A Touch Of Tyrell

Jake worked for most of the days we were in Colorado. There has been many things that have improved because of covid and one of those things is Jake being able to work remotely. He could do it before but with more challenges. He currently isn't able to meet with any clients face to face anyways, so most of his appointments are over the phone or are video.  So one day the girls went out... because Everett really wasn't into shopping :) We stopped by one of my favorite stores first; TJ MAXX. The girls both found Shopkins and were super happy about it. Then we headed downtown... mostly because I wanted some more of that ice cream!! We were supposed to wear masks in each store so we didn't go into many. But my favorite store was an outdoors-y type T-shirt store. I just loved the decorations and all the little stickers and gadgets.  I decided that Everett's room would look pretty legit if I could add some vintage outdoor stuff to his room! We were really excited to be in Colorado because we felt like we could play... and play we did!  We went to Lake Knighthorse in Durango. It's been there for a few years but we've never been. The kids didn't play in the water for super long but the ended up having quite a bit of fun in the sand. I think Roxy with dirt on her face is one of the most adorable things. She's just too cute 👌 There was another family throwing mud balls at each other so Everett decided to do the same. It was actually pretty fun to see them actually get dirty and have fun together (usually Breckie is a princess about getting dirty). I was so proud of her! It was one of those things where it was fun until it wasn't anymore. :) The water was really pretty and it was a nice day out on the lake.  Later, when we were all clean and dry, Jake and I were able to go out on a much needed date. Sunday, after home church on the porch (you know, because of #covid) we loaded up and went on a walk up Miller Creek. On the way there, Roxy fell asleep so the rest of the crew started up the creek and we hung back until she woke up. I just sat and enjoyed the fresh air and pine trees. I also read one of the books I brought on our trip while she was napping. I've been reading so much lately. I'm really not a fan of TV (I've never been but lately everything seems extra bad).   Once she woke up, we headed up the creek.  It was really pretty and such a nice temperature out. We could hear thunder on the distance but there wasn't any lightning or rain.  Me and little buddy Roxy! We did the same creek trail almost 4 years ago exactly (when we were waiting for Aunt Effie to get home from her mission and Roxy was in the tummy pack). We ended up do the whole hike solo. We drove the truck to Colorado so that we could bring Jake's dirtbike.  It's his thing and it's fine with me.  In fact, it's one of the things I fell in love with him for. I felt like it would help guarantee a life of adventure... and it has!! Even though I don't go with him, it takes him to pretty places, he has so many dirt biking buddies, it motivates him to stay in shape, and I like how manly it is, lol! Jake worked almost everyday we were in Colorado but this was one day that worked well with his schedule to ride Middle Mountain.   

I just love the 4th of July in a small town. I love small towns (at least the ones I grew up in)  and I love the extra sense of freedom they seem to have.  Jake and I have always assumed we'd raise our family in a small town but that hasn't been the case, and that's okay. The suburbs have been pretty great to us and the fact that we can visit family in small towns has been pretty great.  I knew the 4th of July would be different this year but I still wanted to salvage as much of our Independence Day as possible. So we headed to Colorado.  Turns out they were having a small, last minute, parade  protest. Patriotic nerd? YES! I also recognize that I am the only one that thinks my kids with messy, chocolaty faces are cute! Jake is constantly wiping off their faces and it doesn't even cross my mind!
