Parent Teacher Conference

Parent teacher conferences are usually a breeze because the kids are so awesome.  I met with Roxy's teacher in person because she's *almost* the farthest behind in her class. I'm almost certain she is dealing with some fore of ADD and she can't seem to make any process on any assignment if her teacher isn't kneeling by her desk helping keep her on track.  I'm not one tiny bit surprised. It's been super tough to get her to learn her sight words (or do any activity with her, really!). But I'm pretty optimistic about her :) While I was with her teacher, she and Breckie took a look around the book fair. We found a new book series all about me, lol!

Back to School & Life

In the act of juggling life and all that I want to get out of it, the blogging ball got dropped. And that's ok. Kindergarten, 3rd grade, and 6th grade for my kids might just have to exist only in their memory because I didn't do a very good job at documenting it. I've been busy this last year (I mean, I did only post 6 times 😅) moving again, establishing ourselves again, raising kids, etc but this year has brought a lot of opportunity for emotional growth. It's been a lot to sort out and experience and I don't really know if I'd want that experience heavily documented or to have accessible to the general public.... however few might stumble upon it.  I think the best option I have is to just start back up where life is now and catch up on important things as I'm able.  The second half of August marked the beginning of school. Everett started 7th grade/middle school. He's been reading Diary of a Wimpy Kid since the 2nd grade and has been excitedly lookin...

Out of School: Weeks 1-3

The kids were on Spring Break for the first two weeks of "Coronavirus". We had 7 guests the first week but I didn't manage to take any pictures. Well, I took this one, but it doesn't prove they were here :) After they left, we played with friends. It was a little rainy with cooler weather while they were here. It reminded me of real Spring weather... hot one minute and then shivering the next 😂 Before the "major quarantine" we were able to get our oil changed, eat Bahama Bucks & bring Jake lunch one day. While I was getting out of the car to bring Jake his lunch, somehow I slammed my thumb shut in the car door. I had to re-open the door to get my thumb out 😢 It hurt SUPER bad but I could still move it. The kids and I went to the park, Everett and I played basketball... it hurt really bad but it was still somewhat functional. By that night it started to swell and  their was a lot of blood under my nail.  I had to poke/burn holes i...

Week of Sneezing

The week of Valentines day was a rough one. Breckie stayed home Monday because she woke up with a really nasty cough.  Tuesday she went to school. Wednesday she got sent home because at recess she was feeling sick and went to the nurse. She had a fever... which means they can't come back to school the next day.  But Thursday was picture day.  So we went to school just for her class picture and then came home. We stopped by her class to get her make up work and she showed me some crafts that she had made in the hallway.  She went to school on Friday even though she wasn't feeling great. But it was her Valentines party and she had been working on her homemade Valentines for a month! In her mind, everything was good. But it's ME that had a rough week. One of the things I don't handle well is sneezing. The sound of people sneezing irritates me AND the fact that they are spraying spit and germs everywhere when they sneeze just makes a terrible ...

Daddy-Daughter Dance

Jake and Breckie went to their first dance together. Breckie picked out her outfit, hair, did her own make-up and was super excited to go dancing with her dad! It TOTALLY wore Jake out! Breckie is a high-energy dancer that likes to jump and hang and dip and twirl! Plus they shared an ice cream sandwich so she was extra dance-y!

Holiday Parties, Assemblies & Concert

After a couple days of being sick, Breckie made it back to school.  Just in time for her class/college cheer at the awards assembly. I took a video of it; it was adorable!! After the assembly, Tana and I went on a hike/walk at the San Tan Mountains. It was a really nice day out! It was also a busy day! Breckie had her Holiday craft party, Everett had his robotics club party, and that evening was Breckie's Holiday concert.  The concert was quite the production! It was so much work just getting everyone there 😅 Breckie was SOOOOO into her scarf that she played with it and twisted her hands all in it (instead of singing) almost the entire time!  One little girl got sick and thew up so there was a little break before the last song.  The last song was a Jingle Bell song and she participated and sang that one :)

Anxious Student

Since starting school again after Fall break, Breckie has been having a lot of anxiety about going to school. She complains that her tummy hurts all of the time and she has been crying and really emotional at school lately.  I've had several conversations with Breckie and her teacher but it's still a bummer she feels this way. Once we cross the crosswalk and near the school, she tells me her tummy hurts and it feels like the first day of school again :( *she checked out Dear Girl from her school library and adores the book! She slept in our bed with me when Jake was at the dunes. I thought it was cute she wanted to keep me company... but then it turned into her not wanting to sleep in her bed alone once Jake got back. She slept with Roxy in Roxy's bed for a few nights after that. I thought it was adorable but wished Breckie wasn't so nervous to be alone.  She has gotten a little better about sleeping alone now but we are still working on the school pa...

School Days

The last week before Fall break was Spirit Week. On Monday they had a steel drum band come to school for the lunch hour and invited families to come and eat with their kids.  I came and surprised the kids.  *Roxy ate the rest of Breckie's yogurt 🙌 One day was pajama day... Breckie was twins with Emily.  Last week was also the week Breckie was celebrity of the week in class.  She got to make a poster about herself, read her favorite book in class, and bring her favorite treat to share.  We also had parent teacher conferences. I got to see the paper we colored at grandparents day and the I heart Everett I wrote in there :)  Here is Breckie's September 11th craft: The kids are both doing great in school and are some of their teacher's favorite students (do they tell this to all parents???).  Everett went through a rough week or two early on. I think it was rough adjusting to a teacher that is a little m...

Grandparent's Day

The morning of Grandparent's Day Breckie told me that parents can come if a grandparent can't. It was also the last day of book fair and Breckie REALLY wanted me to come to that.  I was also watching Carter (the neighbor boy) that day too.  So we all walked to school and checked out the book fair before school started. Breckie picked out a coloring book and some smelly highlighters.  I ran into her teacher at the book fair and confirmed that parents were invited to grandparents day. I also asked if Roxy and Carter could come.  An hour later we were back at school in Breckie's class. She was thrilled.  All of her crafts were ADORABLE! Ms. Gray goes above and beyond with everything. It's so great for us (I hope she enjoys it!).  Breckie and I played a game of "roll a grandchild" and our person looked hilarious! Carter and Roxy were great! I was pretty impressed. We walked back home.  An hou...
